FIBROvIA®
0/10 DENsE-GRADED THIN OR vERY THIN AsPHALTIC OvERLAY There are many types of asphaltic concrete for surface courses. Depending on the grading
formulation, type of coating binder and additives (if any), the mixes obtained have specific
properties that broaden the range of applications beyond those of conventional mixes.
Eurovia has developed a surface course of choice for pavement maintenance, Fibrovia®, which
has many advantages - workability, flexibility and strength.
Applied as a surface course in a thickness of 20 to 40 mm
20-year track record
A MULTIPURPOsE PRODUCT
Fibrovia® is a surface course of choice for semi-rigid and flexible pavement maintenance. In flexible pavements, it accommodates higher deflection values than those typically accepted by conventional very thin asphaltic overlays. Fibrovia® is appreciated as a wearing course for city streets, where its workability allows uniform laying, both mechanised (paver) and manual.
A BINDER-RICHFORMULATION
Fibrovia® is a dense-graded 0/10 thin or very thin asphaltic overlay with high binder content and organic fibre reinforcement.
It is used as a surface course in average thicknesses of 20 to 40 millimetres. An emulsion tack coat with approximately 400 g/m2 residual bitumen is always laid in conjunction with Fibrovia® and helps obtain a waterproof surface. In cases of heavy loadings, modified bitumen is used in this tack coat.
HIGH ORGANIC FIBRE PERFORMANCE
The formulation of Fibrovia® combines a dense-graded but very coarse (more than 70% elements greater than 2 mm) mineral skeleton with high binder content. The use of short fibres with high specific surface area makes it possible to increase the binder content by 1% compared to a conventional formula.
The fibres used are organic. They are either packaged in meltable plastic bags or coated with bitumen and supplied as pellets in bulk (big bags). The choice of packaging depends on the type of coating plant used.
The Fibrovia® binder is usually a pure 50/70 or 35/50 bitumen, depending on the geographic area. Fibrovia® production does not require storage of a specific binder.
CONCLUsIvE TEsT REsULTs
The formulation of Fibrovia® produces a strong, flexible mix, which has good resistance to permanent deformation and highly satisfactory surface characteristics. The relatively high binder content gives the mix very good workability, facilitating the laying process.
