Welcome to the
PeopleSoft & Oracle HCM Cloud Day
2016
Sponsored by Cedar Consulting & Oracle
3rd March 2016
Oracle City Office, London
Introduction
With the introduction of PUM and PeopleSoft HCM 9.2, Oracle moved away from requiring large
and costly upgrades every 3 – 4 years to smaller enhancements several times per year
New functionality is optional and does not need to be installed
Key functionality that has been released since 9.2 initial release (GA) includes:
Fluid User Interface
Global Payroll Workcenter
Payroll Analytics
Absence Analytics
RTI Reconciliation Report
Various enhancements to Outlook Integration and Approvals (HTML Approvals)
Element Copy Tool
Positive Input Keyword Search
Introduction
PeopleSoft Update Manager
PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) is the delivery method for providing product updates in 9.2
Used for the following types of updates:
New Features and Enhancements
Product Fixes
Legislative Updates and Enhancements
Currently only used for application updates, PeopleTools still delivered using traditional methods
Selective Adoption
Selective Adoption requires PUM
Possible to select which fixes / enhancements to apply
No longer required to apply all bundles and other updates
Fluid User Interface
The new Fluid user interface capability was introduced with PeopleTools 8.54
Standard PeopleSoft user interface now labelled as "Classic"
Similar to DUI (Desktop User Interface) and SUI (Simplified User Interface) concepts in HCM Cloud
Primarily used for Self-Service Applications
Scales according to screen and window size
Will adapt according to device form factor (PC, Tablet, Phone)
"Touch" friendly
Requires Internet Explorer 11 (or any recent version of Firefox or Chrome) on PC
Only Safari and Chrome browsers supported on Mobile (iPhone and Android only)
Mobile functionality is 100% browser based – no need to install apps
Fluid User Interface
Pages need to be rewritten to use Fluid – upgrading to PeopleTools 8.54 is not enough in itself
Oracle gradually rolling out Fluid pages for all Self-Service functionality – almost complete
Where is it currently used?
Absence Self-Service pages (since PUM 9)
Payslips and Mobile Payslips (since PUM 14)
Not available for Bank Accounts (yet)
Fluid development requires a broader skill base than standard PeopleSoft development
An understanding of HTML5 and JavaScript is extremely beneficial
Existing PeopleSoft developers may need to retool and spend time learning new technology
Mobile Payslips
Uses Fluid User Interface
Displays a summary and detailed view of payroll results
Fully configurable
Option to download standard PDF copy of payslip (configurable – this can be disabled)
Existing Self-Service payslips component has also been redesigned
Same URL accesses mobile or desktop payslips (auto switches according to device being used)
Global Payroll Workcenter
Global Payroll Work Area delivered in PUM 15
Not a traditional Workcenter but still useful
Tools for managing payroll exceptions (e.g. Payees in Error, Missing Bank Accounts)
Use of Activity Guides to automatically assign different types of exception to different roles or users
Links to Payroll and Absence Analytics
Built using Fluid so can be accessed via small form factor devices (phones, tablets, etc.)
Payroll Analytics
Built predominantly using standard PeopleSoft Analytics Tools, including:
Query
Pivots
Data prepared and expanded as part of payroll processing
Visual presentation of data using a variety of tables, graphs and charts
Wide range of data filters
Direct links to relevant pages and components (Related Actions)
Absence Analytics
Similar in concept to Payroll Analytics
Delivered as a Dashboard
Various visual representations of Absence data as stored in PeopleSoft
Helps to drive ROI by providing greater insight into root causes of employee absences
RTI Reconciliation Reports
RTI Reconciliation Reporting comprises three separate reports:
FPS Reconciliation – Reconciles FPS figures back to Payroll Results
Balances Earning / Deduction results against Accumulator balances (as used for RTI)
Highlights differences between values on FPS and Payroll Results at the employee level
Option to show detail for all employees, or only where differences exist
EPS Reconciliation – Reconciles EPS figures back to FPS figures
Highlights differences between EPS and FPS at the employee level
Useful when investigating why totals on EPS don't match FPS totals
Payroll Reconciliation – Breaks down NI and Tax liabilities owed to HMRC for each pay period
Amounts due includes relief from SMP, SPP, etc.
Breakdown of YTD totals by employee for reconciling back to overall total
RTI Reconciliation Reports
Report output is Excel format
Runs as BI Publisher so can be output to PDF or Word if preferred
Initial setup is missing from PUM image and install
Contact Oracle for scripts to load initial configuration
Other Enhancements
HTML Approvals – Approve directly from email – no need to sign in to PeopleSoft
Outlook Integration – PUM Image 2 introduced two way synchronisation
Element Copy Tool – Major reduction in development time of new features
Positive Input Keyword Search – Makes searching Positive Input quicker and easier
Mobile Technical / Security Considerations
Liaise with technical team about how best to implement and provision connectivity
Main issues generally concern network security
A lot of VPN software will not work from a mobile phone so can't be used
Corporate Wi-Fi networks on company premises may have additional security requirements
Consider corporate mobile platform (Windows Phone and Blackberry are not supported)
PeopleSoft can be made to work with Windows Phone but requires custom technical build
