“DESIGN FOR CHANGE”

“Design For Change” was launched in A.K.B in August 2011 with a group of around 20 youths and local committee members. In this group we were made aware of the need for DFC & what is the program all about. Off all the participants, we were the 5 Captains elected by voting, and our names are as follows :-

From Left to right : Salonee Merchant, Tanaaz Merchant, Riya Fidai, ShoaibMerchant and Alsanha Baredia

We were further asked to decide on what change we would like to get in our surrounding..

Next Meeting Was between local committee members and us who had put forward the thought of “Cleanliness Drive” as the need of the day….

So it was decided that for next 3 consecutive Sunday , we – the Youth, will meet and go to different near by societies, Collect scraps and with the money collected, locate Dustbin in the society…..

11th September – Aga khan Baug society (22 wings)

18th September – Madhuban & Jubilee (3wings & 7 wings)

25th September – Mangal Nagar (10wings)

Permission :

We went to 4 societies, .i.e. Aga Khan Baug, Madhuban Co-op Housing Societies, Jubilee Co-op Housing Societies & Mangal Orchid co-op housing Societies with a letter to grant the permission for Cleanliness Drive and got the permission from all the Societies.

11th September – Aga Khan Baug Societies

We started the drive in Aga khan Baug society by dividing ourselves in to 5 group which was leaded by a captain and local committee member.

All of us discussing which wing to target with the help of local committee member.

Marketing and Planning for next society:

It was decided that before going to any society we will put up a notice below every wing of the society that such a drive is suppose to happen and to make them aware that we are going to come on Sunday so they are well prepared and might gather their scrap before hand. This initiative was taken on Thursday to place notice below every wing so that people have enough time to keep their scrap ready.

Scrap collected from A.K.B Society by us. We were focusing more on Newspaper as it has a very good resale value. We managed to collect as much as Rs2500/- from the scrap

18th September – Madhuban & Jubilee Co-operative Housing societies

Next Sunday i.e. 18th September, The cleanliness drive was done in both the societies and the amount gathered was Rs 1600/- by collecting scrap mostly newspapers .

Some of us at Madhuban Societies after collecting scraps.

We along with Local Committee Member

All of us at Jubilee societies after drive…

Scraps Collected from Jubilee Co-operative Housing Society…

25th September – Mangal Nagar Co-operative Housing societies.

Again we put up notices at visible places in each wing of Mangal Nagar on Thursday and on Sunday i.e. 25th Sept we continued with the drive and collected Rs1400/-

We got the dustbin which was 80 litres in size and the best quality ones. We managed to get 16 dustbins out of Rs 5500/- which was collected from all societies.

Distribution of Dustbin : Depending upon the money collected from the society we distributed Dustbin.

Locating Dustbin at Mangal Nagar Co-operative housing Society…

The Society Members Really appreciated the work done by all of us and promised to use the dustbin in the best possible manner. We also informed them the need of keeping the wet garbage and dry garbage separate, which they agreed upon and the “Design for Change at AKB Jamatkhana” Was a Success…….

We really enjoyed and learnt a lot during this programme..
