The perspective was noticeable in that the landfill was not nearly as deep as it was a year and a half

ago.

Millersville Landfill Facts

• Covers 564.838 acres;

• Only active municipal solid waste landfill owned by Anne Arundel County, Maryland;

• Lifespan can be extended by increased recycling & alternative waste management systems.

More Facts

• 9 total cells—7 filled

• Currently filling Cell 8; estimated 3 years until this cell is at maximum capacity;

• Cell 9 is the largest cell at the facility;

• Estimated to serve the county until 2030s unless recycling rate increases/waste rates decrease.

Still More Facts

• 70,000 tons of trash are buried per year;

• 23,000 tons of material are recovered for reuse/recycling per year;

• Landfill recycling rate = 38%

• Closed cells are capped; double liners are used; leachate (soiled landfill runoff) is collected; landfill is covered with dirt/ sand/mulch and re-lined nightly.
