Community Development Day in

St. Tammany Parish is part of a

national celebration of

Community Development Week:

April 12-18, 2009.

Community Development Day Purpose 

 Community Development Week was started by

NCDA (National Community Development Association) 23 years ago to focus local and national attention on the

programs and projects funded by HUD (the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development) through the CDBG (Community

Development Block Grant) program.

Community Development Day Purpose    

 Community Development Day is an invitation to the residents, non profits and businesses of St. Tammany to become

involved with the direction that CDBG funded programs will take in the future.

Public participation is

encouraged at all

stages of planning for

CDBG funds and

activities.

 Understanding the Citizen Participation Process

  

St. Tammany Parish

maintains a Citizen

Participation Plan that

describes the methods

to be used for engaging

the public in CDBG

planning.

 Understanding the Citizen Participation Process

   

Copies of the Citizen Participation Plan are available at this

meeting and on the Parish website at http://www.stpgov.org

under the Dept. of Social Services.

St. Tammany Parish Community Development Projects & Programs

  

 

St. Tammany Parish

received just over $1 million

in CDBG funds beginning in

October of 2008.

 

2008 was the first year that

St. Tammany Parish

qualified for CDBG funds as

an "urban county (parish)."

St. Tammany Parish Community Development Projects & Programs

   

• Installation of cost-effective measures to reduce home energy consumption in homes of low-income residents.

Repairs On Wheels Program

St. Tammany Parish Community Development Projects & Programs

Infrastructure for the Groves

• Construction of interior streets, water, sewer, utilities, etc. in support of an affordable housing development near Covington.

St. Tammany Parish Community Development Projects & Programs

Alton Sewer Collection Project

• Construction of a sewer collection system for approximately 80 households in the Alton neighborhood near Slidell.

St. Tammany Parish Community Development Projects & Programs

CDBG Stimulus Project: Blighted Housing Demolition

• Demolition of abandoned, blighted buildings in St. Tammany Parish.
