The Directive is not about a strict quota:

To establish a process that leads to better gender balance and ensures that qualification, competence and professional performance play the key role during the board members' selection process

- There is a clear business case for greater gender diversity in corporate boards

- Studies from various countries suggest that companies with a higher share of women at top levels deliver strong organisational and financial performance.

- Diversity among board members boosts creativity and innovation
