Ratio Mark-up:
• The method of calculating price based on the wholesale cost of items, simply doubling, tripling the wholesale price.
For example:
• 1 rose = $.85 wholesale• 3x mark-up =• $.85 X 3= $2.55• Can add more for labor• Can use graduated scale so cheap flowers are
marked up more and expensive flowers less.– Flowers costing less than $.50 are marked up 4X– Flowers costing more than $2.00 are marked up 2X
Types of Items
• Supplies & Plants – do not require any additional labor X 2
• Basic Arrangements, budvases, wreaths & sprays – some value added X3
• Special arrangements, wedding flowers, corsages, - much labor or planning time invested X 4
• Florists time and labor is not free
Example
• A customer wants bouquet of a dozen roses
• This is a basic arrangement so it would be marked up 3 times
• $.90 X 12 = $11.80 X 3 = $35.40
Reverse
• A customer wants to spend $36 on a corsage• This is a more labor intensive product so the
mark-up would be X 4.• In this case we want to know how much the
retail cost of the flowers should be to place in this arrangement so we divide by 4.
• The flowers and supplies to make the corsage should cost no more than $9.
Pricing
• Reception flowers– Moderate time – X3– Flowers
• 2 Hydrangea – X 3.00 = $6.00• 4 delphinium – x $.80 = $3.20• 3 roses – X $.85 = $2.55• 1 pitt – X $.30 = $.30• Total = $12.05
– Charge customer at least $36.15– (round up to $37)
Pricing
• Corsage– Labor X 4– Flowers
• Lavender Spray rose 2 X $1.00= $2• Leather leaf 1 X $.30 = $.30• Limonium: 1 X $.30 = $.30• Ribbon: 4ft X $.08 = $.32• Total: $2.92
