Business  Development  Internship  with  a  Harvard  Business  School  Start-‐Up    Tomato   Jos   is   a   Nigerian   food   production   company   that   believes   in   the   power   of   farming   and  processing   local   food   products   for   local   consumption.  We   are   a   social   enterprise   start-‐up  whose  mission  is  to  make  tomato  production  a  sustainable,  profitable  business  for  Nigerian  farmers.  We're  looking   to   serve   the  $2.5bn  Nigerian   tomato  market  with   locally  produced   tomato  paste   that   can  effectively  compete  with   imports.  Our  start-‐up   is   currently  based  at   the  Harvard   i-‐Lab,  where  we  have  established  residence.  We  will  relocate  our  headquarters  to  Nigeria  in  the  fall  of  2014.    The  Tomato  Jos  team  currently  consists  of  two  full-‐time  members.  Mira  Mehta  is  graduating  from  Harvard  Business  School  and  previously  worked  at  the  Clinton  Health  Access  Initiative  (CHAI)  and  BlackRock   Investment  Management.   Shane   Kiernan   is   graduating   from  Harvard   School   of   Public  Health  and  previously  worked  at  CHAI  and  the  Bill  &  Melinda  Gates  Foundation  amongst  others.        We   are   looking   for   two   business   development   interns  to   help   us   launch   our   business   this  summer.  In  May  2014,  our  business  idea  was  awarded  second  place  in  the  Harvard  Business  School  New  Venture  Competition   -‐   Social  Enterprise  Track,   and  now  we  are  preparing   to  operationalize  our   idea.  We  want   to   give  our   interns   a   true   “start-‐up”   experience  –   there  will   be   lots  of  moving  parts,  lots  of  ambiguity,  some  ideation,  a  lot  of  hustling,  no  pay,  but  lots  of  laughter  and  ramen!    In  this   vein,   we   are   looking   for   go-‐getters   who   care   about   the   world   and   can   take   initiative   in   a  dynamic,  fast-‐paced  environment.      There   are   currently   two   major   areas   of   our   business   that   we   want   to   develop:   a   performance  measurement  framework  for  the  social  element  of  our  business,  and  a  competitive  analysis  of  the  existing  tomato  paste  market  in  Nigeria.    We  anticipate  that  our  interns  will  spend  the  majority  of  their   time   this   summer  working   on   projects   related   to   these   areas,   but   since   this   is   a   start-‐up,   a  minority  of  their  time  will  also  be  spent  on  other  ad-‐hoc  projects  as  they  come  up.    Indicative  tasks  include:

• Conduct  background  research  on  agricultural  project  monitoring  and  evaluation  plans   for  development  organizations  (USAID,  DFID,  etc.)
