Brief

To take 10+ pictures of one thing for client.

Edit four of these on photoshop using 4 editing skills.

ClientIm going to use or submit my pictures for a travel or tourist guide at a travel agency or tourist centre which could be in the UK or in spain.

Mind-map

Resources

Im using a Fuji-film FinePix J150w to take my pictures.

Adobe photoshop CS5.1 to edit them and a mac book to do this on.

I also used a toshiba to organise the pictures and select my favourites.

Planning shootMy plan- Too take pictures of Menorca in Spain and sell them to or get them included in

a travel / tourist guide.

Legal & EthicalAny pictures of people & business's would really be the only issue.

To sort this i would get permission from whom it involves.

Freelance ratesFreelance rates vary but from the between £20 & £50 would be average.

Due to going to spain i think i could add travel expenses' to this. Around £30-£100 and the same for a return. Per night on average it would £50 a night.

Health and safety

Alot of the pictures i took involved standing on rocks Also standing over water could which could result in injury.

To resolve this i would- Wear grippy either rock climbing / sports shoes, use a wrist strap as to not loose the camera and overall just be careful.

Annotated contact sheet

Composition sheet

I this is my best composed picture,

this works well with the rock wall and boats along

the top. The water in front adds a point of

focus which draws you too the top of the picture.

Focus sheetI used this picture as the rocks along

the side of the picture are mainly out of focus but the

water still looks along and adds

contrast between the two.

Lighting sheetThe lighting

going through the ripples looks good and adds realism

too the water which is effective and works well.

The fact the water is clear also

is good as adds depth.

Photoshop 1With this picture i- Used ‘channel mixer’ to add colour, set the vibrance to full and reduced the saturation. To add sunset esk lighting as i felt it would be appealing to the client.

Before After

Photoshop 2With this picture i- Used the magic wand tool too select the sea and used ‘colour balance’ too give it a blue tint which make the water look slightly artificial but inviting at the same time.

Before After

Photoshop 3With this picture I- Used the black and white tool to add depth of field and too give it a vintage / ‘old school’ look which i think works well with the picture.

Before After

Photoshop 4With this picture I- used contrast, saturation and exposure to bring warmth to bring out the Mediterranean / summer feel that is already there.

Strengths and weaknesses

Overall i was happy with my shoot, i thought i took some strong pictures. But would use a better camera next time if i could as alot of the pictures look grainy and are not lit well.

Professional comparison

These pictures from various holiday websites for menorca look far stronger and more appealing than mine. But they’re clearly taken on a much better camera and are of more interesting and vast locations on the island

Fitness for purpose

My pictures would work for a travel agency or tourist guide too show off the island. But maybe a more localised or informal one rather than ‘Thompson’

for example as although the pictures are good they aren’t as mind blowing as others i saw advertising the island

previously.
