STORY OF MY LIFE CHAPTER 1Helen Keller was initially hesitant in writing her autobiography because it was a difficult task. She could not recapitulate all the incidents of her past, so she has mentioned the ones which were more interesting and important.Helen Keller was born on 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, a little town of Northern Alabama.

Her father, Arthur H. Keller, was a captain in the confederate army and Helen’s mother was his second wife.Helen’s father had built a small house after the civil. It was covered with flowers.Helen was the first baby in the family and was named after her grandmother Helen Everett. In the month of February, Helen became extremely sick. she was blind and deaf after disease was cured.

STORY OF MY LIFE CHAPTER 2Helen observed every moment and felt each object after her illness. She used signs to communicate. When Helen turned five, she learned to fold her clothes and started doing her personal works herself.Helen was angry at first when she tried to talk and was unsuccessful.

Helen had the constant company of Martha Washington, the cook’s daughter and Belle, a hunter. They understood Helen’s need totally. She was most happy in kneading Dough balls, making ice-cream, grinding coffee and feeding hens and turkeys.Helen moved from her house to a big one with her family including her father, mother, two half brothers and a young sister, Mildred.

STORY OF MY LIFE CHAPTER 3As Helen grew up she learned to speak through signs.Helen’s parents were disturbed due to Helen’s behaviour. They could not find a teacher who can teach a deaf and blind student in Tuscumbia.Helen’s parents came to know about a doctor who solved a similar case like Helens.

Helen’s parents took her to Dr.Chishom in Baltimore but was unable to help and recommended Dr.Alaxander Graham Bell.On Dr.Bell’s suggestion Helen’s father wrote to Mr. Anagnos, Director of Perkins Institute in Boston.Mr. Anagnos send Miss Sullivan to teach Helen.Helen was slowly led to light from darkness with the help of Miss Sullivan.
